Shearwater 17' Hybrid Kayak
On May 24, 2011 I began the long journey of building a wooden kayak. Exactly 13 weeks and a little over 100 working hours later, on August 23, 2011 I put the boat in the water and paddled it for the first time.
The finished product is beyond my expectations! What started out as a pile of sticks from Chesapeake Light Craft (www.clcboats.com) turned into a work of art that paddles as nicely as it looks.
I could not have done this alone. If not for the urging of my wife I probably would not have started this project, and without her patience I may have ended up with a boat but without a wife. And if not for the expert guidance and friendship of my teacher Phil at Dream Catcher Boat Works (www.dreamcatcherboatworks.com) I would still be reading the directions in the kit!
There are still a few minor things to be done to the boat but we'll tackle those in the coming months. For now I'm enjoying the fruits of my labor! Thanks Barb & Phil!
